Rooted: How to Live Life with Joy, Love and Purpose
Leave CommentLiving an authentic life means living your truth and not what other says or think about you. There are many untruths about Africa and the African diaspora that permeate all elements of our society and can begin to take over our psyche. The truth is that we are descendents of African beauty, excellence, perseverance, power and strength.
The truth is Africa is a beautiful and diverse continent of different landscapes, people and cultures. The truth is Africa is a continent filled with great promise and opportunity. The truth is that Africans and the African diaspora are doctors, lawyers, entrepreneurs, athletes, musicians, world travelers, nurses, teachers, janitors, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters. The truth is that we should expect to be healthy and safe no matter where we live. The truth is that we should have access to quality education, healthcare and investment capital. The truth is that we deserve to live authentic lives that are filled with joy, love and purpose but not all of us are.
We are a movement to tell our story, and empower the collective to live authentic lives filled with joy, love and purpose. We are focused on several opportunities:
- Providing a space that celebrates Africa and the African Diaspora
- Partnering with organizations to close the education, health and wealth gap
- Creating content and events that empower the collective
Why joy, love and purpose?
Joy is a sense of well-being that abides in the heart of a person who knows all is well. Joy does not mean that you will not have trials and tribulations but it does mean that you know that you will survive them and that they will not define who you are. Having joy is the equivalent of knowing that despite how a situation looks that life is rigged in your favor and that it will all work out for your good, better than you can imagine or dream.
Love is an intense feeling and act of deep affection. We give and receive love. It is an intentional act that is done for us and that we can choose to do for others. Love is exchanged between you and God, friends, family and strangers. Martin Luther King said " Hate can not drive out hate, only love can do that." In the Bible 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8 describes love:
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails.
Love is a very powerful force for good that always wins.
Purpose is the intention for which something is created or exists. We were all created on purpose for a purpose. Part of our life journey is understanding our purpose and getting in alignment with our purpose.
As a collective if we live with joy, love and purpose we are unstoppable.
